Five Minute Friday is a writing event that has writers spending five minutes writing on the same topic and then sharing them at http://fiveminutefriday.com/. This week's word is Future.
The future - that place in time seems a little murky like the water in the photo above and a little scary because I can't see it, like you can't see where the water is flowing. But what I have to keep reminding myself is - there is beauty along the way. If you look at this photo in a different way, you see the plants along the water and if you could pan out, you would see that it is in this setting.
That's the thing about the future, we have to look at the big picture. For us humans, that's not always easy to do. But for God, that's how He sees it. We look at the murky water we are treading in or the lack of an end point on the horizon and we get stuck there, thinking that is our destiny. What we should be doing is trusting that there is a reason for the muck and the uncertainty. We should step back and enjoy the scenery along the way knowing that God has our future planned for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 is a verse that I rely on. I have it on wall art, I have it on a bracelet, I even have it on something that I carry in my purse. I have to admit though, I'm not always great at believing it. Or, probably more correctly stated, I'm not always patient about waiting to see those plans for my future. I want them revealed the minute I read that verse. And every time that doesn't happen, I get frustrated.
Instead, I want the future to be something I am excited about but not always looking towards. I want the journey to the future to be every bit as enjoyable as what lies ahead. And I think that the best way to do that is to remember that God has a wonderful plan for my future and it is so much better than any future I could plan.
To get to that future though, I need to stop looking at the past and/or trying to stay put in the safety of the present. I'm going to stop treading in that murky water and start moving towards the horizon. Because I know God has wonderful things ahead for me.
This is a great illustration! It is encouraging to remember when the future looks uncertain and scary to us, that God has the big picture and he has a good plan. Visiting from FMF#25.
