This was my view when I went outside to get my paper this morning. This frog is over halfway up my house, looking like he's holding on for dear life, wondering just how the heck he got himself into this mess. I never knew frogs climbed like this and maybe they don't. Maybe he was so desperate to get away from one of the stray cats that roam my neighborhood that he found himself clinging to the bricks before he knew what he was doing. Maybe he went after something to eat and was now trying to decide whether to fling himself into the nandina bush below and hope that the soggy, rain-soaked dirt would soften his fall.
I couldn't help but see this as a metaphor for life. How often do we leap before we look, leaving us to wonder just how we got here and how we are going to get out of the mess we're in. We find ourselves clinging to something, hoping that when we do fall, we will land on our feet and walk away unscathed.
I hope this frog is ok. He wasn't there when I went out to get the mail later in the day. I will admit I had a good laugh at his expense but I'm hoping that the action he took to get him out of his predicament left him unscathed. I hope his view has improved but anything has to be better than where he was at first thing this morning. Whatever he did, at least he moved and in life, that's often the first and best step to improving your view.
Enjoyed reading you musings about the frog. I never knew they could climb. I hope he is ok. I love how the things we see help us make sense of our own lives. Reminds me of the book title - if you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat.
ReplyDeleteFrogs and toads have been a real part of our lives recently as my three year old seems to be twitterpatted with them. Of course, she joins her big brother on toad hunts, but she seems to become extra attached! I am sure they would love to leap far from her adoring hands! So, yes, I can relate to your view this morning :)
ReplyDeleteDear Andrea
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one of my son's school friends. When they were still young boys, he used to pick up big frogs like this one and carried them hanging over his forearm. Sometimes even up to six at a time!
Blessings
Mia
Great post.
