I knew that my trip would be a whirlwind full of details that I didn't want to forget. When something is a dream come true, you want to remember everything about it. I didn't want to trust my memory to record it all once I got home so I took a journal with me. At the end of each day, I would spend some time writing about what I had seen and how it made me feel.
This journal came in handy when I was putting my photos in albums. Yes, I'm old school and printed my photos. All 2,000 of them. When I couldn't tell one church from another, my journal entries helped me remember which was which. Sorting through the photos and putting them in albums was like going on my trip all over again and it was a wonderful.
People have encouraged me to use Shutterfly to create a book of my trip and I may do that at some point. But right now, I'm happy with flipping through my albums with my handwritten notes and my journal to take me back on my trip of a lifetime.
